Firstly, in case you've missed all the discussion, the interviews, and the harsh criticisms of Amy Chua, a.k.a. Tiger Mother, the Wall Street Journal article should get you brought up to speed.



The major question on my mind: where does she find the time to listen to her daughters practice for five hours a day? If your book group comes up with the answer, send us an email!

Secondly, an oldie, but a goodie.

Not Without My Daughter made a major splash when it was first published back in 1991. But did you know that Betty and Mahtob Mahmoody are now back in Michigan, and do occasional speaking engagements in the area?

It wasn't that long ago that Mia Wasikowska gave a beautiful performance as Alice, opposite Johnny Depp, in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. She appears to be an actress for us bibliophiles to keep and eye on. Check out this clip from her next project:

With at least two other books to her credit, Deborah Harkness is not new to the publishing world, but her new novel, A Discovery of Witches, is her fiction debut and the reviews are good! The list of recommendations is a long one: Parade magazine's book of the week, Entertainment Weekly added it to their 'Must List' twice, glowing reviews from O magazine, a starred review in Publisher's Weekly... Shall I go on? But here's what you really want to know.
