Attention Book Groups!

From the BGTG office...

We've got not one, but TWO new titles available for your book groups!

Firstly, in case you've missed all the discussion, the interviews, and the harsh criticisms of Amy Chua, a.k.a. Tiger Mother, the Wall Street Journal article should get you brought up to speed.

The major question on my mind: where does she find the time to listen to her daughters practice for five hours a day? If your book group comes up with the answer, send us an email!

Secondly, an oldie, but a goodie.

Not Without My Daughter made a major splash when it was first published back in 1991. But did you know that Betty and Mahtob Mahmoody are now back in Michigan, and do occasional speaking engagements in the area?

If you want to reserve either of these titles for your book group, call the reference desk today!

From Page to Screen -- Jane Eyre

It wasn't that long ago that Mia Wasikowska gave a beautiful performance as Alice, opposite Johnny Depp, in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. She appears to be an actress for us bibliophiles to keep and eye on. Check out this clip from her next project:

The film is set to release on March 11, so you still have time to read the book!

Deborah Harkness--A Woman of Many Talents

If you weren't quite ready to pop out for A Discovery of Witches already, try this on for size: Deborah Harkness (also a wine connisseur) has uncanny knowledge of perfect pairings!

Newly Notable

With at least two other books to her credit, Deborah Harkness is not new to the publishing world, but her new novel, A Discovery of Witches, is her fiction debut and the reviews are good! The list of recommendations is a long one: Parade magazine's book of the week, Entertainment Weekly added it to their 'Must List' twice, glowing reviews from O magazine, a starred review in Publisher's Weekly... Shall I go on? But here's what you really want to know. According to People magazine, "Harkness has created a wonderfully imaginative grown-up fantasy with all the magic of Harry Potter or Twilight... An irresistable tale of wizardry, science and forbidden love." (2/21 issue) Not bad for a first shot a fiction, eh?
